Construction Simulator Extended Edition for PC is an open world simulation game that allows you to experience the joys of handling heavy machinery such as trucks and excavators to create new buildings, clear ground and more.
About the Game
Compete for contracts, hire and buy new plant and equipment from genuine brand names (see below for more details). You can choose from over ninety vehicles from over 70 different manufacturers for an authentic and immersive driving and digging experience.
Unlike many simulation games, this one comes with a backstory: you take over the construction business from a guy, Hape, whose dream is to see the city restored to its former glory. Hape pops up from time to time, in game, as your mentor.
While some of his ideas are a little strange, to say the least: hiding a UFO to encourage tourists to come along, amongst them – nevertheless your early projects attract interest from other contractors around the town, and you end up with more sensible contracts such as renovating the harbour and helping the inner city regain some dignity.
As well as these major contracts (you have up to 90 to fulfil over the course of the game), you can also do side jobs for locals, which include everything from installing pipes to laying down parking lots.
Off work you can drive around in a sleek sports car, which is handy for getting around the two large maps (one in Germany, Europe, one in small-town USA). When you’re waiting for deliveries or just feel like a break, you can walk around the open world town to explore a bit. While you work and play, there are one hundred golden hammers scattered throughout the game for you to find as a bit of added fun.
The Nitty Gritty
The wider maps – you unlock map areas as you discover them – aren’t minutely detailed, as with some other games, but that really doesn’t matter as the developers have poured in the visual expertise where it is needed: on the machines which are so minutely detailed that a heavy machinery mechanic would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the game and their real life job! Even the engine noises from idling to revving are spot on.
Your character, unusually for simulator games, is customisable with up to nine helmet choices, a selection of eye protection and ear defenders. You even have ecological choices and going green is a good way to play. You are guaranteed to find quests that will let you try out and test every piece of equipment you earn
As with many similar games you start off small and easy, earning your way up to more difficult, complex jobs with accordingly higher earnings.
But this game gets the balance exactly right – unlike some other games that quickly become all but impossible to succeed at, or which keep you trapped on a hard level for hours and hours while you wait for funds to accumulate or skill levels to rise high enough to complete you contract. This game offers the right balance of challenge vs frustrations – which is a pleasant surprise.
You can fast travel to place you’ve been before, but this is for a fee. It is worth paying, however, when you’re moving lots of equipment to site, to save time and potential fines. Do bear in mind, too, that breaking traffic rules will earn you a fine, so mind the rules of the road when out and about!
Complete contracts to buy machines, earns money and build your business. Play alone or recruit up to three friends to help you out on your crew. Game play is made easy with excellent tutorials, comprehensive menus and a great user interface – as well as a reset button for when your machinery has somehow got backed up into a corner!

A game that in reality shows how to work with machines. If paired with a good controller, it can show how to really work with heavy machinery and how it is not a simple job and how demanding it is. The game for this price is excellent.
