Description

The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me for PC is an interactive drama (read choose your own adventure) and survival horror game, the fourth in the Dark Pictures Anthology series, following three other episodes (see below for more on these).

About the Game

As in the other episodes you can choose one of five playable characters who are: Kate Wilder, the talent of the documentary they’re making about H H Holmes, Charlie Lonnit the company owner/ founder, Erin Keena, the intern, Jamie Tiergen, lighting expert, and Mark Nestor, camera operator, all crew members of Lonnit Entertainment, a TV production company.
Your choices drive the narrative of the game with hundreds of combinations and choices to try out and choose between so each player will almost certainly end up with a very different game experience, as will each playthrough if you change your options each time.
Any one of five protagonists can suffer permadeath if they are killed during the game. Do try to keep them all alive though, each character has their ow strength or weakness, for instance, the camera operator can document what he sees, and Charlie uses his credit cards to open locks – perhaps a metaphor for the way that money can open doors otherwise firmly shut?
The premise of this game leads the group of wannabe film makers to what turns out to be a replica of the real-life serial killer H H Holme’s creepy house – an exact replica (very exact in every detail) – on the invitation of one Grantham Du’Met who soon turns out to be not who he claims to be, and they soon realise that they are being manipulated – but why?

The Nitty Gritty

This iteration of the game brings along with it tool-based puzzles and a revamped character inventory, as well as new movements such as running, climbing, squeezing under and jumping.
British actor, Pip Torrens, reprises his role as the creepy curator. Graphics are, as always, excellent which is nice for letting you enjoy the full benefit of the gore when you are watching your character suffer painful permadeath. And, bear in mind, the building is packed with traps that will make that happen.
Play alone, with two-player co-operative play, or with ‘movie night mode’ in which you and three buddies squeezed onto your sofa with a heap of snacks between you – if you have the appetite to eat after a few minutes of gameplay, that is.
The game is realistic but gory and scary – and the lack of magic almost makes the grim bits worse because of their gruesome realism. If Saw is your kind of movie, this will be your game.

The Full Series of The Dark Pictures Anthology

The full Dark Pictures Anthology features four standalone stories, linked thematically and with the same curator/ narrator overseeing the narrative.
  • Man of Medan: supernatural horror on a ghost ship? So everyone is trapped with who knows what horrors? Yes, please!

  • Little Hope: trapped and isolated in the eponymous and deserted town, a professor and four students must find out exactly what is going on – and whether they can survive it

  • House of Ashes: the aftermath of war is pretty deadly anyway – uncovering a deserted (by people, anyway) Sumerian temple is even more so. Especially when the… things… that live inside are somewhat tetchy about being disturbed…

  • NB: the Quarry is not one of the series, despite being made by the same developers – they have two horror franchises running concurrently: the Dark Pictures Anthology and another to which The Quarry does belong.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me for PC is available for purchase on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You will receive an official key and be able to play the game in seconds. Play smart. Pay less.

probably one of the most fun times i've had with a game!

The game can be pretty hard, and you might need to follow some tutorials, but it's definitely worth it!
    • Fun
    • Good storyline
    • Graphics looking good
    • Some puzzles might be little hard to understand
