CodeVein, a tantalizing amalgamation of action, RPG, and artistic brilliance, dares to venture into uncharted territories, captivating gamers with its breathtaking design, immersive storytelling, and exhilarating gameplay. Prepare to be enthralled by a world where beauty and despair intertwine, giving rise to an unforgettable journey of redemption and discovery.

Step into the Vein, a post-apocalyptic realm ravaged by the Thorns of Judgment, and assume the role of a Revenant, a vampire-like creature that thrives on blood and battles. As you navigate through a desolate landscape, the game's visual prowess takes center stage. Every nook and cranny is meticulously crafted, with exquisite attention to detail, painting a hauntingly beautiful picture of a world on the brink of collapse.

What truly sets CodeVein apart is its ability to evoke deep emotions through its storytelling. A tale of lost memories, friendship, sacrifice, and the eternal quest for redemption, it weaves a web of intrigue that keeps you hooked from the very beginning. The game effortlessly explores profound themes, presenting a mature narrative that delves into the darkest corners of the human psyche.

The character customization system is a work of art in itself. Offering an unparalleled degree of freedom, you can sculpt your Revenant avatar with an abundance of facial features, hairstyles, attire, and even body types. This level of customization injects a personal touch into the game, fostering a deep connection between players and their virtual alter ego.

Combat in CodeVein is a sublime dance of death, offering a satisfying blend of fluidity and strategic depth. Mastering the Blood Code system, which allows you to switch between different classes, grants you access to an arsenal of supernatural abilities. Whether you prefer unleashing devastating melee combos or casting powerful spells, the game adapts to your playstyle, encouraging experimentation and rewarding skillful execution.

Exploration is an adventure in itself, with sprawling dungeons and hidden pathways waiting to be discovered. Unveiling secrets and unraveling the mysteries of this forsaken world becomes an obsession, as each step forward unravels the enigmatic lore that underpins the game's narrative. The level design is masterfully crafted, striking a perfect balance between challenge and reward.

CodeVein's hauntingly beautiful soundtrack is a symphony that perfectly complements its gothic aesthetic. The melodic undertones, ethereal choruses, and heart-wrenching harmonies weave seamlessly into the gameplay, immersing you further into the game's melancholic atmosphere. Each track serves as a haunting reminder of the despair that plagues the Vein, further elevating the emotional resonance of the experience.

However, despite its undeniable brilliance, CodeVein is not without minor flaws. Occasionally, the camera angles can be a tad frustrating during intense battles, momentarily breaking the otherwise flawless immersion. Furthermore, while the AI companions are competent allies, their decision-making abilities occasionally leave something to be desired.

CodeVein, with its ethereal beauty and intricate gameplay, is a testament to the artistry and creativity that define the gaming medium. It transcends the boundaries of conventional action RPGs, delivering an unforgettable experience that resonates long after the final credits roll. Whether you are drawn to its immersive storytelling, mesmerizing visuals, or challenging gameplay, CodeVein is an absolute masterpiece that deserves to be played by all lovers of the genre. Prepare to embark on a journey that will leave an indelible mark on your gaming soul.
Awesome game, Pretty good

The combat itself is fluid and responsive, encouraging players to experiment with different combinations of attacks and abilities. Dodging, parrying, and timing your strikes are essential for success, especially when facing off against the game's formidable bosses. Every encounter feels like a test of skill, rewarding those who can adapt and overcome even the toughest adversaries.

Character Customization:

One of the standout features of Code Vein is its deep and flexible character customization system. Players have near-complete control over their character's appearance, from facial features to clothing and accessories. This level of detail allows for a truly personalized experience, letting players create heroes that reflect their own unique style and personality.
  • Difficulty not really hard
  • customisation of the character
  • different builds
  • not enough weapon types
Code Vein it is one of those game you either love or hate. Im glad to say this is definitely love. Thou start could be slow for some people but after couple of hours you can't stop playing it. So addicting to try another gun with another build. One of the best examples developers add something new into their game with existing souls like style game. Unlocking abilities is fun and exploring the world is keeping you on track you just need to find out whats next. Love how many options they give you to chose from. This game is not to hard and if you want challenge you can try to go alone without companions. Yet again they give you options here. Boss design are cool and mechanics are fun to beat them up. Lets say this now that Bandai Namco did good job and made first not perfect but amazing soulish game.

a good alternative to dark soul, but much easier. if you searching for an alternatives to dark soul you can give this game a try if the anime style dosen't repel you. a good story that make you want to see the end.
  • a good dark soul likes
  • a pretty nice story
  • sometimes too easy.

It's not the usual souls like game that you would expect, it's very great to play. the most epic thing is the variety of gameplay style that you can have, but the anime like graphic is another plus point.

Man, this game... sure is strange.

First of all, it's a Souls-like. Good one at that. But there is SO MUCH wasted potential, it's almost sad, to be honest.

Anyway, let's break it down, shall we?

Gameplay
This game, as I said already, is a Souls-like. Plays like Dark Souls 3, if not a bit faster. Enemies, especially bosses are BRUTAL. They are fast, hit very hard, sometimes plain annoying to deal with. Which is fine, but... the local "Estus flask" is way too slow to use. Until some of the recent updates you couldn't even cancel the heal animation. I can't count how much I died while healing, because bosses are so damn fast and spammy. I do understand why it's like that though. The game is clearly optimized for Co-Op experience, whether it's real player or AI. And that's a shame, because the game unnecessarily harder without it. I don't like playing with AI. I don't like playing Co-Op in Souls-like games too, first playthrough at least. Why should I be punished for that? Co-Op makes the game way too easy. Solo? Way too harder than it needs to be.

Some things are good tho. The entire class system is top-notch and allows you to create many very viable builds, you just need a little bit of time to tinker with it. And maybe a little bit of time to grind some stuff. The game is decently generous in that department, thankfully. I also like that you can switch your class in the middle of an area without any drawbacks. This is the thing that is done right.

Story and lore
Man oh man, where do I even start with this one...

It was very promising from the start. I almost fell for it. But after a couple of hours it's turned into literally an anime with way too much Bongas dashing around. Bongas are fine tho, physics included, if you're into that sort of thing. It just felt cliche. I couldn't invest myself in this characters, story or even the world itself. Yes, there were some good moments, but still, not good enough for me. Characters are likable enough to tolerate them at least. Of course all of this is subjective, so... you do you I guess.

Lore is full of holes. Like, very big holes. Like Bongas in this game. That huge. It's clearly evident that developers wanted to imitate the success of Dark Souls, but they just couldn't I guess. Which is... disappointing to say the least. Potential is here tho. Maybe DLC or a sequel\prequel will help. Or maybe not.

Graphics and design
It's an anime game. Looks good for an anime I guess. Unreal Engine sure is great.

I can't say the same about the enemy design, sadly. Most regular foes look very, VERY bland and uninspired. Recolored and reused assets doesn't help at all.

There are WAY TOO MUCH details. Sometimes it's ridiculous. Looks very overloaded and that's a bad thing in my book.

Bosses, on the other hand, look good. Mostly. There are some hits and some misses. Also bongas. Yeah, even bosses here regularly have a giant pair of Bongas. It's... good.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The world is a hit or miss too. Some areas are great, for example: snowy location. Some areas are questionable, for example: some certain cathedral. Some are plain bad and lazy, like this certain crypt with ton of reused assets. You'll know when you'll see it.

I won't say anything about the character creator, you can read about it in dozens of other reviews. It's very good and there is a Bongas slider. That's all you need to know, really. You will spend a hour or so. That's just the way it is.

Music
Music is fine. I do like unique boss themes. Regular combat music is kinda boring, but it's fine.

There is one thing I don't understand. So, there is a cutscene introducing the boss. Looks hype and all that jazz. Music is rocking, smooth transition to gameplay... default boss theme plays. Why would you do that? It should count as a crime. I'm dead serious right now.

Co-Op

I don't have very much to say about the co-op. I played it with my gf and it was fun when it worked. It's kinda glitchy and netcode just stinks. Maybe it was an issue from our end, but I've seen many negative stuff about it online.

I even somehow died and got resurrected while the game froze. Became invincible and couldn't damage the boss with my pointy stick. For some reason I could damage it with magic. That was fun.

In the end, despite all of its flaws, it's a nice game and I do recommend to play it, just don't expect much from it.
Totally worth it for the price

The key was instantly there
Played it with a friend and had ton of fun
I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys soulslike games and plays alot with the character creator
  • Replay value
  • Rather short story for now
Not a bad game, but not the best i've played.
+ : gameplay, customisation, not too hard
- : Too short (25h for me), looks a bit old (compared to what can be made nowadays).
If you want it, wait until it's 50% off.

Love this game, really fun.

Pros:
Alot of character customisation allowing you to make really cool characters
Good Story

Cons:
Story is a bit short, would take maybe 5 hours if you go for the bad ending and speed run it
I was skeptical at first about the site but after making this game my first purchase and verifying the code on steam i am now 100% convinced that I made the right choice! Will definitely be recommending the site to friends!!!!
