- Seed the Adventure: Establish your cultural identity by choosing one of eight different expedition sponsors, each with its own leader and unique gameplay benefits. Assemble your spacecraft, cargo & colonists through a series of choices that directly seed the starting conditions when arriving at the new planet.
- Colonize an Alien World: Explore the dangers and benefits of a new planet filled with dangerous terrain, mystical resources, and hostile life forms unlike those of Earth. Build outposts, unearth ancient alien relics, tame new forms of life, develop flourishing cities and establish trade routes to create prosperity for your people.
- Technology Web: To reflect progress forward into an uncertain future, technology advancement occurs through a series of nonlinear choices that affect the development of mankind. The technology web is organized around three broad themes, each with a distinct victory condition.
- Orbital Layer: Build and deploy advanced military, economic and scientific satellites that provide strategic offensive, defensive and support capabilities from orbit.
- Unit Customization: Unlock different upgrades through the tech web and customize your units to reflect your play style.

So when this first came out it got slated and rightly so because 30 or 40 quid for a game that was so inferior to Civ 5 at the time deserves all the flak it got so I stayed away from it.
But I recently bought it on sale at a fraction of the price and putting the cost aside, I think it's a pretty decent game, yes the combat and city management are a lot like Civ 5, but a lot of other mechanics feel totally different.
I think if you're expecting SMAC 2, then you're going to be disappointed, but get it on offer, and treat it as a new game and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, a shame they charged so much for it on release.

Lacks content. Was bored of it after playing the MP about 10 times. It's the same deal as CIV 5 and seems to need another 2 expansions to feel complete.
The whole idea is fun though. I could be a really good game but it's a shame it feels like they are milking it from the basis.

Very high learning curve feels overwhelming for new players but fun and you can lose track of time easy , very slow at start and slow in some spots later also still fun if you like civ or strategy turn base games you should love this. I give it a 8 out of 10

Detta är ett kul spel om man gillar sci fi och 4x-spel men känns mycket som en stor modd till civilization 5. Civ 5 har all mänsklighetens historia att använda sig av medan detta bara har massa påhittat och tyvärr märks det av i civilisationerna och dess ledare.
- Har mycket av det bra från civilization 5
- Spännande enheter, byggnader och teknologier
- Är alldeles för likt civ 5 om något
- De olika grupperna känns tråkiga
