Activation worked. OG graphics are an option when creating a game but I don't think there's an option to enable them on the tutorials & campaigns. The UI has been redesigned and build/research queues are now available in buildings which is nice. Other than that it seems very similar to the original game. Would definitely recommend this if you enjoyed the original. It's just a shame that the menu screens etc are so completely different to the ones in the original game. Gameplay is good. Win before the gold runs out or you won't be able to make seige equipment or build a wonder.
  • Orignial grahpics are an option in custom games
  • Gameplay is effectively the same as original

  • Title & menu screens aren't even close to original

This version is the 2018 one and works perfectly. I was worried at first that it wouldn't be the correct version or that the code itself wouldn't be valid. I had read some of the reviews and worried that would be the case, glad it wasn't.

Normaly Best Strategy Game Ever but Graphic here is stunning I didnt expected that turnover I wont speak of Gameplay couse if u are looking to buy remasterd game u already know gameplay and u know that AoE is one of great games.

I think it would be a good game in Steam if it had worked, but just an Instant Gaming scam. Purchased it, installed it in Steam. Doesn't work, won't start. Restarted computer, uninstalled, reinstalled, still doesn't work. Contacted IG support, they said contact Steam support, they would be able to "quickly get it working". Steam support said contact the original vender, that would be IG. Contacted IG, asked for refund, denied. After my one experience with IG, I'm done. Lost enough money.

Hallo, die Anleitungen zur Spielaktivierung funktioniert nicht. Letzte Endes kann man nur das Originalspiel von Microsoft runterladen, wenn man bei Microsoft angemeldet ist und dann kann man es nur da kaufen, niemals downloaden. Ich fordere daher meine Geld zurück und möchte den Kauf stornieren.

Hello, the instructions for game activation does not work. Ultimately, you can only download the original game from Microsoft if you are logged in to Microsoft and then you can only buy it there, never download it. I therefore request my money back and would like to cancel the purchase.

Be careful when buying this item because they will send you the wrong size code
To install for the instructions they give you
And getting them to resolve it will make you have to wait 12 hours Unless you message them about cancelling it and then they will block it and threatened you with fraud risks
just for them to sort it out and then cancel the whole order all together and make you wait 7 days for your payment
  • Probably won't use this website ever again for the complete inconvenience

Still a good game but could use some new things.
I feel like this is a little bit of a cash grab.
Troops cannot be set in a specific formation and some other things that could be better.
But if you like nostalgia this is super!

The game brings me back to good old days, with good Graphics and the same Gameplay. And that is the problem: old bugs were not improved, e.g. fishing boats want to get to the next harbour, shortest way direct. But that may be in a different sea. So they get stuck.
Wall building was also not improved. New built walls do not optically fit in to existing ones.

Even with a renewed interface and graphics, this remains a game released before 2000, so don't expect anything else. If you take this into consideration, then you find back the good old times and mechanics that worked nicely in these old ages...

What a waist of money I am very disappointed. I had higher hopes for this game .i guess i am going back to the old one . i don't under stand the reviews . There are more negative than positive . Microsoft must be paying for ratings

I love it! The musical orchestral remastery of the old 1997 midi tracks sounds fantastic and the graphics have been polished up to modern standards while still keeping true to the original game. a lot of UI features have been added while not trying to turn it into a age of empires 2 HD clone. The campaign has been given narration instead of only texts and some balance changes have been implemented to make more factions viable in multiplayer. If you wan to experience this classic masterpiece of a game go ahead and pick it up since it's cheap and some of the best money you can spend if you are a fan of the age of empires series.
  • Remains true to the classic game experiance
  • Great music and graphics
  • It's not just a reskinned AOE2HD
  • A few features like the production que for the farm would have been a welcome addition to reduce the micro a bit

Horrible gameplay...The original games cannot be compared to this disgrace of the tittle!Stay away and tell your friends as well...Units move in a horrible way,all civilizations have almost the same units(yamato have greek hoplites and so on)and many other things wich im trying to forget....
