Unless you have done an extensive research before or you have a mentor next to you, starting the game is like getting a job as a rocket scientist with a degree of a high school drop out. No maps, no compass, no hints, no help, nothing. You are left to your own devices.
But this is what makes this game special. It is extremely satisfying when you finally figure out its mechanics and you will forever remember the pleasure of finally slaying your first boss. The game is long and torturous you can easily sink frustrating 40-50 hours in it.
And yes, prepare to die. A lot. Seen that movie "Edge of Tomorrow?" That pretty much sums up the gameplay.
While we are not looking at BF4 level graphics, DS2 still offers a detailed and mesmerizing (but often dark and horrifying) world without requiring you to sell a kidney for a video card.
I have not tried the multi-player part of it so I am not qualified to make a comment (but there is plenty of reviews out there on this).
But it is not perfect. In fact there is one major blunder that almost ruined it for me: it is a horrible port from XBOX. The controls are all displayed in xbox language and keyboard/mouse mapping is garbage. There is a slight delay when using the mouse and this is very frustrating especially in combat.
At the moment the game is being offered at €14, but prepared to throw in another €20 for an xbox controller if you don't have it. This is a MUST. But if you want to make it even more difficult that it is, it's completely up to you.
If you can get over that (I did), you have a lot of time on your hand, and into inflicting pain to your brain, then purchase this game.

Having enjoyed the first Bioshock game years ago, this sequel is familiar territory. Maybe a bit too familiar. However this perhaps what makes it a good game, it IS good old Bioshock with a few improvements thrown here and there with a whole new story to tell.
One aspect that sets it apart from most FPS games is that while it still follows a script like any other that has a plot, outcomes make the gameplay more rewarding as players are pulled into making choices and decisions between right and wrong. Somehow makes you think about the moral consequences at times.
On the technical side: it appears that certain new video cards might not agree with the game. I own an MSI R9 290 OC and it constantly kept crashing and required me to hard reset my PC. It was solved by disabling DX10 through Steam - don't let it stop you, the fix is very simple through a quick Google search.
A must have game!
